  7. Viktor was born in the spring of '44
  8. And never saw his father anymore.
  9. A child of sacrifice, a child of war.
  10. Another son who never had a father after 
  11. Leningrad.

  13. Went off to school and learned to save the state.
  14. Followed the rules and drank his vodka straight.
  15. The only way to live was drown the hate
  16. A Russian life was very sad-
  17. And so was life in Leningrad.

  19. I was born in '49.
  20. A cold war kid in Mc Carthy time.
  21. Stop 'em at the 38th Parallel
  22. Blast those yellow reds to hell.
  23. And cold war kids were hard to kill
  24. Under their desk in an air raid drill.
  25. Haven't they heard we won the war 
  26. What do they keep on fighting for ?

  28. Viktor was sent to some Red Army town.
  29. Served out his time, became a circus clown.
  30. The greatest happiness he'd ever found
  31. Was making Russian children glad.
  32. And children lived in Leningrad.
  33.  
  34. But children lived in Leningrad 
  35. And hid in the shelters underground.
  36. Until the soviets turned their ships around 
  37. And tore the Cuban missiles down.
  38.  
  39. And in that bright October sun 
  40. We knew our childhood days were gone.
  41. And I watched my friends go off to war.
  42. What do they keep on fighting for ?
  43.  
  44. And so my child and I came to this place.
  45. To meet him eye to eye and face to face.
  46. He made my daughter laugh, then we embraced.
  47. We never knew what friends we had
  48. Until we came to Leningrad.
